To give real service you must add something which cannot be bought or measured with money, and that is sincerity and integrity. ~Douglas Adams

Make your own PALADIN USB

Creating a PALADIN USB for FREE

VERSION 1 and 2

A fully configured and branded version of PALADIN USB is available for purchase through the SUMURI website here. Your purchase helps support the continuation of the PALADIN project!  It is our goal to continue to deliver a toolset that is beneficial to all who participate in computer forensics.

However, if you can not support the PALADIN project at this time you can create your own PALADIN USB thumbdrive by following these steps.

Things you will need:
1.) PALADIN CD
2.) 1GB USB thumbdrive or larger.
3.) A few minutes of your time and a cup of your favorite beverage!

Instructions
1.) Boot a computer using the PALADIN CD and do not insert the USB at this time!
2.) Once the desktop appears open the Terminal by navigating through the menus:  Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal.
3.) Inside the Terminal type the following command and hit enter to delete the write-blocker file: sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/50-writeblocker.rules
4.) Close the Terminal window and NOW insert your USB.
5.) Open PALADIN Toolbox and Format your USB drive with a FAT32 filesystem using the volume name PALADIN.
6.) Close PALADIN and open the USB Startup Disk Creator by navigating through the menus again: System -> Administration -> USB Startup Disk Creator.
7.) Make sure your PALADIN CD is listed as the SOURCE disk.
8.) Make sure your "Disk to use" is set to your USB with the volume name PALADIN.
9.) Make sure you select "Discarded on shutdown, unless you save them elsewhere".
10.) Click "Make Startup Disk" and wait for the process to finish.
11.) After the process completes shutdown PALADIN as normal and rock the world with your new PALADIN USB!

Things to remember:

Don't mount any evidence during this session which you use to create the PALADIN USB.  Step #3 disables your write protection!!!

Remember, the Mac EFI does not play nicely with bootable Linux file systems on USB so this USB will not boot a Mac.

Enjoy!
